In the 1901 Census: Maude Cann was 19, a domestic servant at Marine Parade, Dawlish East; Frank Cann was 18, living in barracks (a private in Somerset L.I., Taunton St Mary Magdalene, Thirteenth Regiment Taunton Depot); William is 15, a servant at the dairy farm of Ernest G. Elliott's Higher Holcombe Farm at East Teignmouth, Devon. The 1901 Census shows Henry Cann remarried to a Mary SHORLAND after Mary Ann's death: (all born in Dawlish except his wife Mary who was born in Mamhead, Devon) Henry Cann, 50, head of household; Mary Cann, 58, wife; Frank Shorland, 19, son; Rose M Shorland, 12, daughter; Earnest C Cann, 11, son; Amy Cann, 9, daughter; Willey Melhuish, 6, grandson; Olive Shorland, 2, granddaughter.
