Husband John DOYLE
BornJune 21, 1896Penders Lane, Youghal (Birth date is from the baptismal record. Note that this date is inconsistent with the civil birth record which gives the birth date as July 1, 1896. The Civil Registration Births Index lists John Doyle Jul-Sep 1896, Youghal, v.4, pg. 701. See record)
BaptisedJune 28, 1896Youghal (family lived at Penders Lane, Youghal, see record)
Father James DOYLE
MotherMary O'SULLIVAN
Married1926?
Notes The Irish April 1911 Census record gives him as a telegraph office employee, born in Youghal, age 15, Roman Catholic, could read and write, single, living with his parents at 7 Kennys Lane.
In 1914 John emigrated to the U.S.
In about 1926 (1930 Census says that Christana was 18 when she married) he married Christina McCarthy.
See the family (living in a Manhattan apartment house at 2177 33d St) in the 1930 U.S. Census record. At the time of the April 20, 1930 Census, John was 2 and James 1.
According to his great-granddaughter, John became alcoholic, left the family and died on the streets of the Bowery in New York City.
Wife Christina McCARTHY
Born18 December, 1908Blackpool, Cork City, Ireland (Irish Civ Rec. 921745, SR District/Reg Area: Cork, Mother's Birth Surname: DUNLEA)
Baptised
FatherCharles McCARTHY
MotherCatherine DUNLEA (Civil Record for the 8 July, 1900, marriage of Charles M'Carthy and Catherine Dunlea, Jul-Sep, 1900, Registration district: Cork, Volume: 5, Page: 113. Probable record for Catherine Dunlea's birth is: 14 May 1875, Birth Place: Cork, Ireland, Father's name: Cornelius Dunlea, Mother's name: Margaret Twomey.)
Notes
In the 1901 Ireland Census the McCarthy's are shown as lodging with the Neenan family at 5 Crotamore Square, Cork City, Charles 26, Kate 25, Charles 3mths.
The McCarthy family is shown in the 1911 Ireland Census as living at 9 Thomas Davis Avenue, Blackpool, Cork City: Charles F 35, (married 11 years) Kate 35, Charles C 10, Mary M 8, Maggie M 6, Cornelius 4, Christina 2, and Margaret Dunlea (mother-in-law [her age needs explaining]) 40.
The Irish Civil Records index shows the following McCarthy children born in Cork to a Dunlea mother, which matches with the 1911 Census, excepting the addition of the youngest who was born after the Census date: Charles (b. 20 Dec 1900), Mary (b. 10 May 1902), Margaret (b. 29 Jan 1905), Cornelius (b. 12 June 1906), Christine (b. 18 Dec 1908), John (b. 5 Aug 1911). Note that as John didn't emigrate with their mother in 1921, he probably died during 1911-1921
Christina's mother, Kate, along with her two youngest children, Cornelius (15) and Christina (13) emigrated to the U.S. together, arriving in New York City on September 26, 1921. The immigration record has the familiy listing their closest Irish relative as Kate's sister, Mrs. Ronayne, 33 Greenmount Buildings, Cork City (probably Bridget Dunlea b. 1877, married Thomas Ronayne 25 Apr 1904). Presumably the father, Charles, had died by 1921?

Christina's brother, Cornelius, married Agnes Reynolds on 3 Oct 1931 in Manhattan. He is given as age 25, from Cork Ireland, parents Charles Mccarthy and Katherine Dunlea. And Agnes is given as age 23, from Roscommon Ireland, parents Michael Reynolds and Mary Neary. There is a death record for a son of theirs, Cornelius McCarthy, died 28 May 1945, age 12, at 67 W 107th St., N.Y. City, Birth Date 18 Nov 1933, Birthplace N.Y. City, Burial Date 31 May 1945 St. Raymonds Cemetery. The 1940 U.S. Census has a record that appears to be the family at West 109th St, N.Y. City: Catherine McCarthy 64 (b. Ireland), Cornelius McCarthy 32 (Packer at wholesale grocer, widowed, b. Ireland), Mary McCarthy 8, Charles C McCarthy 7. It appears that Cornelius' wife, Agnes, had died, and his mother had moved in with them.
