Roman Catholic baptism record says: Name: Mary Bridget Doyle; Date of Baptism/Birth: 27-Jan-1887; Address: Not Recorded; Parish/District: YOUGHAL; Gender: Female; County: Co. Cork; Denomination: Roman Catholic; Father: James Doyle; Mother: Mary Sullivan; Sponsor 1: James Sullivan; Sponsor 2: Mary Colclough; Notes: CELEB: NR FATHERS NAME E [JAS] 1ST SPONS E [JAS] Who is James Sullivan, a sponsor at Mary Bridget's baptism? Is he an uncle (sister to Mary Sullivan)? Mary Bridget was listed in 1901 Census and not listed with the family in the 1911 Census. There is a Mary Doyle listed in Youghal in the 1911 Census that is probably this Mary. She is given as age 23, single, born in Youghal, cannot read or write, a servant at a drapery store run by Mrs. Magnes, house no. 107 North Main Street. Mary Bridget married Denis MULCAHY in 1920. He died in Youghal (Buckley's Lane) on 11 May 1938, his death certificate says he is a fisherman age 65 years. The death certificate of Denis Mulcahy has him attended at the end by his daughter Margaret Mulcahy (b. 12 June 1921). A possible child is listed in the Civil Registration Births Index: Ellen P Mulcahy, Mother's Surname: Doyle, Jan-Mar 1931, district: Youghal, v.4, p.532. There is a record of the death in Youghal of Helena Christina Mulcahy a 4 day old child on 4 January 1930. Jim Doyle (Bartholomew's son) said that Mary lived with her sister Katie. Jim referred to Mary Bridget as the mother of "Meena Doyle". Why Meena? Jim said that Mary didn't have any money. His anecdote was that she would stay in bed until noon to avoid the expense of breakfast. Jim said that Meena was looked after by Katie. He said Meena married Sammy Revens and had two girls and two boys. Meena died and Sammy remarried. | |

She was no longer living with her parents at the time of the April 1911 Census. There is a Catherine Doyle, age 26, who is listed in the 1911 Census as a general domestic servant to the Kelly family at North Main Street. Catherine married Patrick (Paddy) Lowey, a seaman. Patrick died January 30, 1973 at age 80. He shares a grave in Youghal cemetery with Bartholomew Doyle who died April 27, 1929 and Mary Bridget Mulcahy who died Powers Lane, May 26, 1935 at age 53.[is this from the cemetery records? Inconsistent with probable death record]) The records at the Youghal cemetery give her date of death as July 22, 1969 at age 85. Jim Doyle said that Katie lived on Cork Hill and she was a saint. Looked after her sister Mary Bridget and her daughter. She nursed Hannah (Bartholomew's daughter) when she had TB. Hannah died of TB in 1943.
