George is listed as single, age 25, dark complexion, dark hair, blue eyes. He is shown as coming from Pontypridd, Wales where he was a coalminer. He lists his closest relative in the country of departure as his uncle, William O'Conner, 111 Norton Bridge Rd, Pontypridd. He is travelling to join his cousin, Robert Welch, 58 Chestnut Ave, Jamaica Plain, Boston, Mass.
[Who is George's uncle, William O'conner, in Pontypridd? Possibly the husband of a sister of one of George's parents. When the UK 1921 Census is made available in 2022 it may have good information. There is a vaguely possible Wm O'Connor in the 1911 Wales Census at Llanhilleth, Monmouthshire (30 miles from Pontypridd), who is age 33, married to an Ellen, age 41 (born in Wales) and they have a 14 year old daughter, Hannah. William is listed as a collier, orginally from Waford, Ireland (presumably Waterford).
There are messages on the Internet from the daughter of a Thomas Fehily who, she said, went with Wm O'Connor from Waterford to Wales in 1921. "My father Thomas Fehily left Coolbeggan, Co. Waterford on 10 Jan 1921 with a Will Conners for Pontypridd, Wales. Next I found him in NYC, USA during 1926/1927. He only said that he worked in the mines." This is the same Wm O'Conner as she says that William and Thomas were living at 111 Norton Bridge Rd. Also, Thomas Fehily (age 23) and a Peter O'Connor (age 27), both listed Wm O'Connor at the Norton Bridge address as their closest friend in Wales, and both travelled on the same ship with George Greenslade to Boston in April 1923.]

A possibility is found in Boston marriage records for 1860 which records the marriage of Ellen Leahy (b abt 1835 in Ireland, with father, David, and mother (oddly), Edward) to William Welch (b abt 1828 in Ireland). There is an immigration record for an Ellen Leahy, age 18, arriving in Boston on Nov. 20, 1854 which might be this Ellen. She could possibly be the sister of Maurice Leahy (father of Margaret Leahy (George's mother)).]
The 1930 U.S. Census gives his age as 29, 26 when first married, he was born in Ireland, his father in England and his mother in Northern Ireland, he emigrated to the U.S. in 1923, he's a chauffeur in the "heating concern" industry (see record)
The 1940 U.S. Census: George Greenslade, head, age 41, married, educated through 8th grade, born in the Irish Free State, a handyman in the stone supply industry; and his children, Eileen, age 11, born New York; George age 9, born New York; Thomas age 6, born New York; John age 5, born New York.
In 1933 George began naturalization proceedings with a declaration of intent and completed the process in 1940 with a petition for naturalization. Note that George gives his birth date as April 21, 1900, which cannot be correct as it conflicts with the baptismal date of March 25, 1894, and with the 1901 Irish Census which gives his age then as 7. The 1933 declaration says that he is a laboror, age 33, with fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, 5'6'', 160 lbs. The 1940 petition gives his address as 453 E. 183rd St, New York, NY. He has lived in the Bronx since June 1926.

The 1940 U.S. Census shows the family without Gertrude. George is listed as married and not widowed. The family story is that Gertrude abandoned the family (in approx. Jan 1937) (and that what happened to her is unknown), which is confirmed by George's July 1940 Petition for Naturalization which gives Gertrude's residence as "unknown".
Married John R. ADLONG on February 14, 1948. Their children are Kenneth, Bruce, Rosemary, Floyd. Eileen remarried Charlie KELSO.
George completed a social security application form (SSN 109-22-6212) on July 9, 1945. He was age 14. He was living at 544 East 183 St, Bronx, N.Y. Father: George Greenslade, Mother: Gertrude O'Brien. He was intending to work for a grocery store at 2275 Washington Ave., Bronx. see record

With Peggy's mother having abandoned the family in approx Jan 1937, Peggy's father, George, gave her into the care of Frank and Frances Ruane in Queens, N.Y. who were Irish immigrants. In 1954 in Manchester N.H. she married Richard John Rusinski
"She had been a resident of Derry for most of her life. She was employed as a supervisor for BAE Systems in Nashua. She enjoyed dancing, traveling and shopping. Family members include her husband, Henry Grygiel of Derry; two daughters, Michelle Sheedy and Doreen Grygiel, both of Derry; four grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen Kelso of Texas and Eileen Rusinski of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Martel, in 1973." Obituary in The Union Leader (Manchester NH) July 31, 2003.
