Notes |
Because "Daniel McCarthy" was a witness at Mary and George's 1833 wedding and "Honora Carthy" was a sponsor at the 1837 baptism of Mary's daughter Mary, and Daniel Carthy (and Margaret Condon) did have daughters in the parish of Youghal, Mary (1805) and Honora (1807), it's almost certain that Daniel Carthy and Margaret Condon are Mary's parents. Catherine Webster (granddaughter of George and Mary) told Connie Donoghue that a Dan McCarthy a farmer of Kineora (where is that?), Youghal, married a Slocum. She, or Connie, evidently misunderstood that piece of family history as it was Dan's daughter that married a Slocum.

Notes |
There's oral history from Connie Donoghue that John Maraga (Mariga?) married a Mary Slocum. If true, possibly this Mary? Mary Slocum was one of the baptismal sponsors at the May 25, 1880 birth of Mary's sister Johanna's son John. Presumably that was this Mary and thus she was unmarried at that date. Note for possible interest that a Thomas Mariga was a sponsor at the baptism of Johanna Slocum's child George in 1874.
3 | Johanna SLOCUM | |
Gender | Female | |
Born | Gurthroe [i.e. Gortroe, close to Boherbue where many Slocum's lived]
Baptised | May 30, 1841 | Parish of Youghal record |
Married | November 8, 1870 | Youghal record |
Died | ||
Notes | Married Emanuel DeStories on November 8, 1870. Catherine Webster (Anastatia Slocum's daughter) told Connie Donoghue that her aunt was Johanna Destories. This helps with being certain of Anastatia's parents as it's known from the wedding record of Johanna Slocum and Emanuel Destories that Johanna's parents are George Slokum and Mary McCarthy.

A John Sloacum married Johanna Loughlin in Youghal on Sept 26, 1841 (no parent information on marriage record). Is he related? |
