Notes
General, and speculative notes on the Slocums, and relatives of Catherine Webster, as told by Catherine to Connie Donoghue:

Dan McCarthy a farmer of Kineora, Youghal, married a Slocum. Mick Hickey married a ? Maraga. He was a grandson of a Slocum. John Marraga (or Marriga) married Johanna Slocum in Youghal in 1873 (a different Johanna Slocum than married Emanuel Destories in 1870). Richie Hickey, son of Mick Hickey, told Connie Donoghue that the name Maraga was de Madriaga and they came from Newfoundland, probably originally Spaniards in the cod fishing industry. Youghal was an important port in sailing ship days.
Note: John Maraga was a sponsor at the baptism (1874) of John Webster (son of John Webster and Anastatia Slocum); Mary E. Marriga was a sponsor at the baptism of George Donoghue (1899) son of Jim Donoghue and Catherine Webster; Thomas Mariga was a sponsor at the baptism of George DeStories (1874) (son of Johanna Slocum who married Emanuel DeStories in 1870). Also, Michael Hickey (b abt 1873) (supposed to be a grandson of a Slocum) married Margaret Maraga in Youghal in 1904. Need to trace the relationships between Mariga and Slocum families.
A Slocum was reputed to be a survivor of an American ship wrecked in the bay?

Tod Sloan, a famous American jockey - his real name was Slocum, was said by Catherine Webster to have been related to her.
It is said that a Protestant minister executed at Wexford was related. Catherine Webster remembered going there by mail coach as a small child (say 1877)
Bobby Chappel's (Protestant d. 1960s) mother was a Carroll.
There were relatives in San Francisco who sent clothing to Catherine Webster. A trunk with a Wells Fargo label was in the house in the 30s. They reputedly owned a cannery and a woolen mill. The 1906 earthquake may have killed them?
