The April 1911 Census record lists him as a fisherman, born in Co. Cork, age 42, Roman Catholic, could read and write, married for 22 years, 9 children born alive and 9 children still alive, living at 11 South Cross Lane.
His age as listed in the 1911 Census (42) is inconsistent with the presumed age of his mother at his birth. Also his grandaughter Kitty Doyle said that he was married at age 17, and died at age 70, both of which would put his birth around 1874.
James was known to his grandchildren as "Da"
